Marty Bates
Marty joined the PSO in 2021 as EVP & COO. Prior to the PSO, he spent over 30 years in business leadership and operations in global companies GE, McKinsey & Company, Alcoa and Audia Group. Marty grew up in Pittsburgh and returned in 2006 after 21-years of living around the U.S. and Europe for education and work. He has worked extensively in Western Europe, South America and China. His experience with the PSO started first as a subscriber and later as a Board member. In 2018, he created a chamber music event at a local bar with PSO musicians that has since grown into the PSO’s Discovery & Drinks series. Marty studied piano and trombone as a child, played keyboards and bass guitar in a college rock band, and has a life-long passion for introducing new listeners to the power and beauty of orchestral music.
