Community Engagement Programs
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's community engagement programs leverage the power of music to support goals and priorities of our neighbors across the region. Highly collaborative, these programs cross geographical and disciplinary boundaries to create meaningful artistic experiences that are responsive to issues and interests of the Pittsburgh community.
Lift Every Voice
Lift Every Voice addresses systemic underrepresentation and historic marginalization of artists within the orchestra industry, with particular emphasis on showcasing the accomplishments of Black artists. The Lift Every Voice initiative has three primary objectives: 1) To celebrate and promote the accomplishments of Black artists; 2) To improve equity within the Pittsburgh arts community; and 3) To expand representation on stage of Black musicians, especially those with direct connections to Pittsburgh, including composers, conductors, and performers.

Wilkinsburg Neighborhood Partnership
The Wilkinsburg Neighborhood Partnership promotes music experiences for all Wilkinsburg families. The partnership convenes educators, local leaders, and community members who collaborate to ensure music education and interactions are available for all students; raise funds for the Wilkinsburg School District music program; supplement music instruction with classroom visits by PSO musicians and other local artists; and provide opportunities for youth to participate in out-of-school music activities.

Sensory Friendly
Inclusive concert experiences designed especially for children and families with autism spectrum disorders and sensory sensitivities. The Sensory Friendly initiative includes one fully modified orchestra concert each year, plus Sensory Friendly accommodations at all Fiddlesticks and Schooltime events.

In Honor of Service
Accessible engagements for our region's military personnel, including collaborations with the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System to provide therapeutic experiences for local veterans using live music, ticket discounts, and an annual community concert.

Allegheny Valley School
We are proud to partner with Allegheny Valley School, which provides residential and therapeutic programs throughout Pennsylvania for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The Pittsburgh Symphony performs two concerts each season for residents at the Pittsburgh campus.
