About This Performance

This program features a mash-up of two masterpieces separated by more than 100 years —Brahms' First Symphony and Radiohead's OK Computer. Songs from the latter are intricately woven into the former, fusing together a never-before-heard "hybrid" sound that is at once classical and contemporary. The original orchestration of the Brahms is augmented by three vocalists, who carry the Radiohead melodies and sing in rich three-part harmony. Also on the program are a mash-up of Brahms' Tragic Overture and Radiohead's "Street Spirit" (from The Bends) and a virtuosic orchestral fantasy based on Radiohead's "Idioteque" (from Kid A).

Attendees can enjoy pre-concert beats, food and drinks in the Heinz Hall Summer Garden.

Use the promo code FUSE to purchase a FUSE package today! $100 gets you tickets to all three concerts during the 2015-2016 season, as well as VIP seating, complimentary food tasting and two drink tickets for each concert.

In the words of creator/conductor Steve Hackman:

"An amazing process of analysis, discovery, de- and re-construction, and re-creation led to this program, a synthesis of the Brahms First Symphony (1882) and Radiohead's OK Computer (1997). All four movements of the Brahms and eight songs from the Radiohead album are featured. The envelope of what is possible and permissible is constantly pushed, with Radiohead songs being superimposed above Brahms' music, Radiohead's melodies being altered to coexist with Brahms' harmonies, the motives of one interjected into the other, and departures from the score left and right to accommodate journeys into a new compelling and captivating world. Lovers of Brahms will appreciate that the sound world always adheres to his late-romantic and densely contrapuntal style; lovers of Radiohead will enjoy a unique and virtuosic re-interpretation of their repertoire. And both will hopefully become fans of music they've never heard before!"
