RAVEL Piano Concerto for the Left Hand
HAYDN Missa In Tempore Belli (PSO Premiere)

Program Notes

Manfred Honeck and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra come together with the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh plus five soloists to make a powerful musical statement.  From the delightful and clever musings of Mozart in his “Paris Symphony” to the stately and powerful kettledrum strokes of Haydn’s Mass in Time of War, two classical masterworks frame this program of remarkable contrasts.  The weekend also features the Pittsburgh debut of French pianist Bertrand Chamayou performing Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand, one of the most inventive and remarkable documents of the piano repertoire.

A pre-concert talk, beginning one hour prior to the performance in the auditorium, will be led by Associate Conductor Andrés Franco. This talk is open to all ticketholders.
Immediately following the concert, join us for an on-stage performance of selections from Bach: Goldberg Variations, BWV 988 for String Trio  (Arr. Sitkovetsky), featuring Marta Krechkovsky, violin; Meredith Kufchak, viola and Bronwyn Banerdt, cello. This performance is open to all ticketholders and you are encouraged to move closer to the stage to enjoy this special performance!
