BEETHOVEN Violin Concerto
MAHLER Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth)

Program Notes →

Two genius composers come head-to-head as Music Director Manfred Honeck conducts Beethoven and Mahler.  Following her superb February 2018 PSO debut, Norwegian sensation Vilde Frang returns to Heinz Hall to perform Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, a stunning display for both soloist and orchestra.  Baritone superstar Matthias Goerne and tenor Eric Cutler join Honeck for Mahler’s “Song of the Earth.”  It is from this posture of the heart that a musical journey through life’s most exultant and deeply introspective moments comes to life in one of Mahler’s most powerful masterpieces.

A pre-concert talk, beginning one hour prior to the performance in the auditorium, will be led by Associate Conductor Andrés Franco. This talk is open to all ticketholders.

Immediately following the concert, join us for an on-stage performance from Dvořák’s Terzetto in C Major, Opus 74, featuring: Alison Peters Fujito and Laura Motchalov, violins, and Marylène Gingras-Roy, viola. You are encouraged to move closer to the stage to enjoy this special performance!

Run Time: This performance will run approximately 2 hour and 20 minutes, including intermission.
