About this Performance

Imagine being neighbors to the brooding Beethoven, seeing his success skyrocket every way you turn. That’s how it was for the young Schubert in Vienna. And as he sat in the concert hall for the premiere of Beethoven’s iconic Ninth Symphony, he left breathless and inspired. In Schubert’s Ninth Symphony, you’ll hear the composer’s bold attempt to match Beethoven’s grandeur, even directly quoting the famous “Ode to Joy” motif in his own work.

Additionally, experience Ravel’s jazzy and playful Piano Concerto played by Seong-Jin Cho, alongside Music Director Manfred Honeck’s arrangement of Puccini's Symphonic Suite from Turandot.
