About this Performance

Bookended by Respighi’s two dramatic pictures of Rome, this program carries the listener through the sounds of the ancient metropolis. Starting with Roman Festivals, you will hear an ancient world filled with bloody gladiators and boisterous street performers, followed by a look into the towering Roman trees and the stories that they hold within them in The Pines of Rome.

Take a quick detour to the Iberian Peninsula alongside virtuosic violinist, María Dueñas, in Lalo’s impassioned Symphonie espagnole, painting a beautiful picture of Spanish culture. A new work by Jessie Montgomery co-commissioned by the PSO rounds out this robust final weekend for the 2022-2023 season.
