About this Performance
Journey down the museum corridor with us as we hear the sounds of art in Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. Yulianna Avdeeva returns with Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto, written to be reminiscent of the coastline of France, led by the debut of conductor Petr Popelka. Martinů's Thunderbolt P-47 has its anticipated Pittsburgh premiere.
Concert Enhancements
• Community-Curated Exhibition: An Artistic Celebration of Friendship Drawing inspiration from Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, a musical homage to his friend and artist Viktor Hartmann, the PSO presents an exhibition at Heinz Hall from January 12-14, 2024, that captures the profound essence of friendship through art. This exhibit features an array of original pieces by local high school and university students, alongside a special display of Hartmann's six surviving masterpieces. This is free and open to concertgoers for this weekend.
• Sips @ the Symphony: Enjoy uniquely-crafted cocktails inspired by select movements from Pictures at an Exhibition.
• On Another Note: On January 12 & 13, the Overlook Room Bar will stay open for an hour post-concert, providing a perfect spot for patrons, staff and musicians to mingle and share their excitement over the performance they've just experienced!
