Paul Silver

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, violist Paul Silver holds a Bachelor of Music degree and a Performer's Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. He also holds a Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music. His teachers include Robert Vernon, Francis Tursi, Heidi Castleman and Edward Ormond.

Mr. Silver has been a participant in the Aspen and Casals Music Festivals, performing in numerous chamber music and orchestral concerts. Locally, he plays chamber music with friends and colleagues from the orchestra and has appeared as soloist with the Westmoreland and Butler symphony orchestras.

As a chamber musician, Paul has also performed in Beijing, Hong Kong and Moscow as well as throughout the United States. Paul was a member of the Rochester Philharmonic and the Detroit Symphony prior to joining the Pittsburgh Symphony in 1981. His viola, made by Frederick Haenel in 1938, is a copy of a Testore. He and his wife Linda, a violinist and string teacher in the Mt. Lebanon School District, have three children, Sarah, David and Jeremy.
