Classical and Pops Concerts Continue Throughout the Summer at Hartwood Acres and on Front Row
For Immediate Release
June 18, 2021
PITTSBURGH, PA—Hand-in-hand with its upcoming family concert at Hartwood Acres, a vibrant and energetic exploration of dance is at the heart of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s new summer online programming for families, presented online and available for free.
In a program featuring the outstanding Pittsburgh dance companies Attack Theatre, PGH Tango Connection, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and STAYCEE PEARL dance project & Soy Sos, the Pittsburgh Symphony’s “Summer Dance Spectacular” will get families up and moving to the music. Ready for a rainy day or every day, “Summer Dance Spectacular” is a free online program for families that will premiere on Monday, June 21 at 7:30PM on the orchestra’s digital platform, Front Row, and will be available for a month. The program combines recent concert excerpts with new video to explore different dance styles as varied as the Argentine tango and American square dancing. Pittsburgh illustrator Emily Marko’s delightful at-home activities complement the rich variety of dances.
The Pittsburgh Symphony will again join the Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA) for its summer reading programs. The Pittsburgh Symphony and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre have partnered for a musical reading of Giles Andreae’s classic children’s book Giraffes Can’t Dance, brought to life with performances by the Pittsburgh Symphony, and teaching artist Kerra Alexander from the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre who will narrate and demonstrate dance moves.
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra thanks the Henry L. Hillman Foundation for its generous support of the PSO as presenter of Summer with the Symphony. The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is deeply grateful to BNY Mellon for sponsoring the Pittsburgh Symphony's classical digital performances and to PNC for sponsoring the Pittsburgh Symphony Pops performances.
