PITTSBURGH—The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Manfred Honeck are delighted to announce that Sean Juhl and Aaron Mossburg will join the Orchestra as members of the viola section this spring.

"It is a pleasure to welcome Sean Juhl and Aaron Mossburg to the Pittsburgh Symphony family,” said Melia Tourangeau, president and CEO of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. “Both are outstanding young musicians with impressive backgrounds whose passion for music is an excellent match for the orchestra.”

Sean Juhl is a native of New York City who is currently completing his Bachelor of Music degree at The Juilliard School. He has performed as a soloist, with chamber ensembles, and as an orchestra member with The Juilliard Orchestra, Orchestra of the Music Academy of the West, and National Youth Orchestra - USA. Juhl is the winner of the 2021 LSO Keston MAX Fellowship from The Music Academy of the West, and 1st Prize, Viola Concerto Competition at The Juilliard School (2019). He will begin his service with the Orchestra in early June when Music Director Manfred Honeck leads a concert featuring Dvořák's Te Deum.

Aaron Mossburg is currently principal viola in the Rochester Philharmonic, where he has been a member since 2016. Mossburg has performed on numerous occasions with the Cincinnati Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, and the Cleveland Orchestra, and had a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Symphony in the 2018-2019 season. He has performed at music festivals across the world and at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and in Shanghai, Beijing, Singapore, and the Dominican Republic. In 2011, Aaron Mossburg gave his solo Carnegie Hall debut and shortly thereafter received top honors in the senior divisions of both the American String Teachers Association’s National Solo Competition in New York City and the Ohio Viola Society Solo Competition. Mossburg completed his undergraduate degree at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and earned his Master of Music (M.M.) degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music.
