About this Performance
How does sense of place influence music? In what way do domestic musical traditions shape the distinctive sound of a place in time, and how do composers weave together tradition and innovation to create something that is distinctly theirs? Discover the ways that composers draw inspiration, such as how uniquely American experiences shaped the distinct styles of Antonín Dvořák, Florence Price, and Jessie Montgomery. Explore these questions with musicians from the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and PSO Executive Vice President and COO, Marty Bates, at the St. James A.M.E. Church. The program begins at 6:00pm but join us early for socializing and snacks!
